As Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Global Insight, Michael Kargula is responsible for all of the legal affairs of the company and its subsidiaries. In addition, Kargula has oversight responsibilities for the company's human resource function and is a member of the company's board of directors.
Prior to joining Global Insight, Kargula was with Primark Corporation from its inception in 1983, where he served in various senior level positions, culminating in executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary. Over his 17-year period with Primark, Kargula was responsible for the company's legal matters, domestic and foreign. He assisted Joseph Kasputys, Primark's then CEO, in transforming Primark from a gas utility-holding company into a global information company, buying and selling numerous companies over the 17-year period.
Prior to joining Primark, Kargula was employed as a senior attorney for Shell Oil Company in Houston, Texas. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Kargula was also employed by the Securities and Exchange Commission as a special counsel in its Division of Corporation Finance in Washington, D.C. In addition, he worked as a stockbroker for Shearson Lehman in the mid-1970s. Kargula has engaged in a wide range of legal disciplines, with particular emphasis in securities, finance, and employee benefits.
Kargula obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1978 and his Master of Law from the Georgetown University School of Law in 1980. Kargula is the treasurer and a member of the board of directors of a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting and maintaining exchange activities between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Japan.
